As a personal project, Ludassient served as an opportunity to push beyond the limitations of my previous rigs and explore more advanced motion and tracking systems.

Challenge

Compared to my earlier projects, which primarily focused on basic facial expressions and limited head movement, this rig required significantly greater depth and flexibility.

Key challenges included:

  • Implementing full XYZ head and torso motion

  • Creating natural deformation across extreme viewing angles

  • Integrating VBridger tongue tracking

  • Managing multiple toggles and accessory states

  • Working around PSD preparation issues, including merged assets that required separation and reconstruction during the rigging process

Several assets were not originally prepared with advanced rigging in mind, particularly within the mouth setup, requiring additional revisions and asset creation before implementation.

Process

Using Live2D Cubism, I developed the rig through iterative testing and refinement.

Features implemented included:

  • Full XYZ head rotation

  • Full XYZ body movement

  • VBridger-compatible mouth and tongue tracking

  • Glasses toggle

  • Coat toggle

  • Physics systems for hair, clothing, accessories, and earrings

  • Lean-in tracking

  • Expression controls and parameter blending

To achieve natural motion, I relied heavily on anatomy studies and observation of real facial movement when determining deformation ranges and mesh behavior. I only referenced a single tutorial series.

Result

The final rig represented a significant technical leap from my previous projects, featuring a substantially wider range of motion, improved tracking responsiveness, and enhanced expressiveness.

The project strengthened my understanding of:

  • Advanced deformation workflows

  • Rig optimization

  • Asset preparation requirements

  • VBridger integration

  • Natural motion design for VTuber models
